In the Kouty Resort, there are three parking lots available where you can conveniently park your car and start your hike from there.
From the information center in the Kouty Resort, you can follow the red hiking trail, or make your journey more enjoyable by taking the cable car, which will take you up to Medvedi hora to the Tetrevi chata lookout.
For more experienced hikers, a steep 3.5-kilometer climb awaits to reach the lookout. If you prefer to skip the ascent, we recommend taking the cable car, which will comfortably take you up to Medvedi hora to the aforementioned lookout.
At the U obrazku signpost, you’ll find a shelter for a rest. From here, the trail continues with a more challenging climb. Along the way, you’ll pass adrenaline-filled mountain bike trails, adding an exciting atmosphere to your hike.
From the lookout tower, continue through the enchanting forest following the red hiking trail. You will then reach the road at the Tetreví Chata signpost, walk a short distance to the right along the road, and then turn right again onto the forest path, still following the red trail towards the Mravenecnik – sedlo signpost. Along the way, you won’t miss the three impressive wind turbines.
Here you will face another climb of about one kilometer along a rocky path and the slope of Mravenečník Mountain.
After climbing the steep hill, you will continue along the slope of Mravenecnik, where tree roots wind along the path. In good weather, this spot offers a beautiful view of the surroundings.
From the Mravenecnik – sedlo signpost, a short walk leads you to Dlouhe Strane. You will reach a road, which you cross via a wooden footbridge. After a few meters, you will arrive at the upper reservoir.
At the reservoir, you can rest on the rocks and enjoy the view.
The upper reservoir of the Dlouhe strane pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant is a man-made lake, which is the highest body of water in the Czech Republic. It reaches a maximum depth of 26 m. As the power plant site is located within a protected landscape area, the entire operation is located underground for environmental reasons. The main task of the power plant is to ensure the stability of the electricity system, for which a balance between current consumption and the output supplied by energy sources is necessary.
You can comfortably walk around the upper reservoir and enjoy the beautiful views. On the opposite side of the reservoir, you will find refreshments.
