⚠️ Warning! Winter conditions in the mountains do not ease even in May. There is 10–30 cm of snow on the ridges.
You can park your vehicle in one of the available car parks of the Kouty Complex. Then you will follow the red hiking trail, heading over the bridge. You can either use the cable car, which will take you closer to Tetrevi chata, or the lookout tower U Tetrevi chaty on Medvedi hora, or you can take a hiking route, which largely leads around the ski slopes.
If you decide to go on foot, you will continue along the red route, which leads to the forest right from the beginning, and then you will cross the lift called Obrazek and the ski slope.
Subsequently, a route of about a kilometer and a half to the U Obrazku signpost awaits you.
From here you will go through the so-called Dlouhy vrch, which is quite difficult to climb. About two kilometers long elevation with a height of about 280 meters. Again, we warn you to be careful and walk on the edge of the slope when hiking.
Once you are at the lookout tower U Tetrevi chaty, you can go to see the lookout tower or refresh yourself in the bar. From the lookout tower, in beautiful weather, there are views of the surrounding peaks.
From the lookout tower, you will continue through the forest along the red tourist sign. You will walk along the road, at the signpost Tetrevi chata. Again, you will continue along the red tourist sign, towards the signpost Mravenecnik - sedlo. You can't miss three huge wind turbines along the way.
Subsequently, the route continues again along the red tourist sign. Now you won't meet skiers or cross-country skiers for some time (at the very top). From the lookout tower, a 2.5-kilometer hike with an elevation gain of about 240 meters awaits you.
From Tetrevi chata you will take the route to Dlouhe strane (1353 m above sea level), along the so-called slope of Mravenecnik Mountain to the Mravenecnik - sedlo signpost.
From the Mravenecnik - sedlo signpost, a short walk awaits you to Dlouhe strane (1353 m above sea level). In nice weather, there is a beautiful view of Praded (1491 m above sea level) or Vysoka hole (1465 m above sea level).
The upper reservoir of the Dlouhe strane pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant is a man-made lake, which is the highest body of water in the Czech Republic. It reaches a maximum depth of 26 m. As the power plant site is located within a protected landscape area, the entire operation is located underground for environmental reasons. The main task of the power plant is to ensure the stability of the electricity system, for which a balance between current consumption and the output supplied by energy sources is necessary.
